Buying or Selling a Business in Glasgow Southside

  • The Law Society of Scotland
UKRAINE HUMANITARIAN APPEAL

Claphams solicitors regularly advise individual and corporate clients on the complex process of buying or selling a business. Our expert commercial property solicitors seek to build lasting and productive relationships with our clients by striving to understand the people behind each transaction. Whatever your business, we can help to make finding the right space to get your business underway – or make the transition to the next level – as painless and professional as possible.

As a longstanding local firm with strong ties to the surrounding community we understand that choosing your premises is one of the most important decisions you will make as a business. At Claphams we draw on expertise gained over many years’ experience of acting in the sale or purchase of businesses in Scotland to ensure that any stress involved is kept to a minimum. We do the work and allow business owners to concentrate on what they do best: running their business. We can also assist with all legal aspects of buying and selling your home.

Expert Commercial Property Lawyers Glasgow Southside

Our expert solicitors can add value by advising on every aspect of buying or selling land, office space, retail premises or industrial units. Our strong links with estate agents means we can assist in your search for the ideal business location. The fact that we are not tied to any one agency means you can rest assured we only have your interests in mind. Great contacts coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the local market mean we can help find you the best deal.

Claphams are on all main lendors panels, including Halifax, Virgin, LLoyds, Bank of Ireland, Accord, Bank of Scotland, RBS, Natwest, Santander, First Direct, Yorkshire Building Society, Credit Union, Leeds, Nationwide, TSB, Cheltenham & Gloucester, Barclays, Cooperative, Clydesdale, Skipton & Woolwich.

At Claphams we pride ourselves on being trusted advisers to our clients. All the work is carried out by qualified solicitors who bring decades of combined experience to bear, rather than by paralegals or legal executives. We take the time to find the correct solution for each client’s individual needs and anticipate problems before they arise. We regularly advise clients on commercial leases, environmental issues and planning consents which means we can go the extra mile in making sure that our expertise means you avoid the most expensive pitfalls around buying or selling a business.

There is indeed very little legislation in relation to commercial leases in Scotland. This is in stark contrast to the position regarding residential property where a significant amount of legislation has been passed and indeed can also be contrasted with the position in England where much more legislation exists. When it comes to commercial property, however, the view is that negotiation between the parties is the order of the day. Very often the nature of the contract will depend upon the effective negotiating powers of the parties and commercial expediency. For more information, read Debra Clapham's guide to leases on Millar & Bryce's Scottish Conveyancing Guide here.

In an era of increasing specialisation in the legal sector, we continue to provide a range of services to our clients. We can carry out a wide range of legal work and act as a gateway to more specialist advice if and when necessary. Our approachable team means our clients benefit from the personal touch. You can always speak directly to your solicitor for honest and straightforward advice on any aspect of the transaction.

Planning for the Future of Your Business

Are you thinking about taking a well-earned rest from running your business as you get older? As a local firm we appreciate how complicated the issues can be when considering passing your business to the next generation.

At Claphams we offer a free “legal health check” for our older clients who may be handing over the reins as they move from work into retirement. As well as advising on the transfer of your business our team can discuss a range of steps you might also be thinking about as you prepare to sell your business, including wills, powers of attorney and downsizing your home.
