Supporting Cancer Research UK’s Free Will Service

A recent study found that as many as 63% of adults in Scotland are without a Will.

This statistic is alarming, because a Will is an important future-planning document that all adults should have in place.

Not only does a Will allow you to specify who should inherit your estate after you die, it also enables you to:

  • Nominate who you would like to act as executor for your estate
  • Appoint guardians for any dependent children in the event of you and your partner’s death
  • Leave a bequest to a charitable cause close to your heart

Dying intestate (without a Will) means your estate will be distributed in line with the laws of succession, which might result in people inheriting your assets that you would not have chosen to be beneficiaries. In addition, dying without a Will can create a lot of additional stress and upset for loved ones at an already difficult time.

Here at Claphams, we offer a professional and accessible Will writing and updating service. As part of this mission we’ve teamed up with Cancer Research UK’s free Will service.

Under this service, people over 55 who want to write or update a simple Will can do so for free. If you and your partner want to write mirror Wills, only one of you needs to be aged over 55. You can also receive guidance and information about leaving a legacy gift to Cancer Research UK, and if you would like to leave a gift to the charity in your Will you can even specify how you would like it to be spent, for example to aid research into a specific type of cancer.
